Reflecting on one of the standout moments from the Life Sciences Industry Awards 2026, held last 28th May at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Water Technology's double win of the Laboratory Excellence Award and the Operational Excellence Award marked one of the evening's most compelling demonstrations of how scientific capability and operational discipline can reinforce each other within a single organisation.
Water Technology Ltd delivers water, hygiene, and process solutions to industries including pharmaceuticals and food, supported by a network of advanced laboratories spanning environmental, QC, microbiology, and R&D functions. It is within these laboratories that the company's commitment to both innovation and sustainability is most clearly demonstrated. The judging panel for the Laboratory Excellence Award highlighted Water Technology's integration of circular economy principles as a defining feature of the submission, noting in particular the repurposing of a process by-product into an effective and sustainable solution for removing ester gum from equipment. That kind of practical, applied innovation, turning what might otherwise be waste into a functional tool, is precisely the type of technical problem-solving the life sciences sector increasingly needs.
The Operational Excellence Award recognised a different but complementary dimension of the same organisation. Judges pointed to Water Technology's strong and consistent delivery of operational performance across its core activities, supported by a clear focus on energy, water, and waste reduction backed by robust data and well-chosen case studies. Measurable efficiency gains, disciplined cost management, and the integration of digital innovation and regulatory compliance all contributed to a picture of an organisation where continuous improvement is not an aspiration but an embedded practice.
Together, the two awards reflect a business that has built structured systems to maintain high performance across both its scientific and operational functions, delivering stronger customer outcomes and long-term competitive advantage in the process.
The Life Sciences Industry Awards 2026 recognised Water Technology as a company that combines pharmaceutical-grade scientific expertise with the operational rigour and sustainability thinking that the life sciences sector will increasingly depend on in the years ahead.
Stay tuned for the Life Sciences Industry Awards 2027 cycle, where Ireland's most innovative life sciences organisations will once again have the opportunity to be recognised.
